The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Wiki

Susie Myerson is a main character in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Personality[]

Susie Myerson is the no-nonsense manager of The Gaslight coffee house. She is also a loyal friend to Midge and becomes her manager when she decides to pursue doing stand-up comedy.

Susie is not afraid of speaking her mind and telling Midge (or anyone else for that matter) exactly what she thinks in a very direct and blunt manner. She is brutally honest and gives Midge the "tough love" she needs to hone her act as a comedian and valuable life advice as well.

She also constantly makes sarcastic comments about Midge's lavish lifestyle as well.

Susie appears to know the business of comedy well and sees the potential in Midge, encouraging her to hone her act. She even says that Midge and Mort Sahl are the two people who have ever performed at The Gaslight who had any sort of genuine, raw talent that is a rarity to find.

Along with being a manager, she and Midge form a friendship over time though Susie is reluctant to at first, insisting she and Midge simply have a professional relationship as co-workers, though they do eventually become best friends.

Physical Appearance []

Susie Myerson is a woman with short dark brown hair and a curvy build. She appears to be slightly older than Midge.

She is often seen wearing a navy, white, and red striped shirt, a pair of grey dress pants, a brown belt, a black leather jacket that in Season 2 is revealed to have belonged to her estranged uncle, and shoes, and a grey newsboy hat, and a key on a chain around her neck.

Character History []

Susie Myerson is seen at The Gaslight in the Pilot episode.

She attended the Pembroke College in Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, graduating in 1948. Her roommate (and eventual girlfriend) whilst attending was Hedy Ford.

Trivia[]

  • According to the Pilot, Susie's been working in clubs for fifteen years. In that time, only twice has she seen a comedian with something special:
  • She grew up in Broad Channel Avenue, in The Rockaways.
  • Susie had a cousin who lived on a farm, who used to feed Hersey bars to their sheep when they got constipated.
  • When she was little, her mother forgot her at the Armistice Day Parade, where an old one-armed soldier gave her a nickel and she took the bus back home.
  • When Midge is arrested for a second time, Susie rings Rose Weissman, to say that Midge will be picking up Ethan Maisel later than planned (rather than admitting the truth) but whenever Susie's asked by Rose, what her name is, she blanks and gives various names, such as:
    • Carol
    • Janet
    • Donna
    • Mrs. Miniver
  • As of Season 1, she hasn't seen her father in fifteen years.
  • In The Disappointment of the Dionne Quintuplets, Midge assumes incorrectly, that her full name is Susan. Then when Susie asks what name, she looks like she should have, Midge gives two names in response:
    • Doug
    • Prunella
  • By 1990, she created a charity in memory of her friend, called The Jackie Dellapietra Foundation.
  • She is allergic to crabs.
